Cathedral

Before reading Raymond Carver's Cathedral, I didn't know what to expect other than it would take place in a cathedral or church. Some aspects I liked about the story was the real feel of middle class life as well as the ups and downs of marriages. At first I didn't understand why the husband didn't like the blind old man until I understood the relationship between the old man and his wife. The old man and the husband didn't get along until he experienced how being blind might feel. What I didn't like about the story is the overabundance of drugs and liquor that is used amongst the characters. Overall I would recommend this story to someone because it gives the true feel of reality that is life and relationships making it extremely relatable.

Oedipus the King

Before rereading Oedipus the King written by Sophocles, I had prior knowledge concerning the overall plot and the actions of the protagonist Oedipus. What I liked most about the story is the fact that as a viewer you are fully aware of the effect Oedipus is leaving behind based on his actions. The events unravel before our eyes making us curious to see if Oedipus can change the outcome. What I also liked was the fact that Oedipus got what he deserved because of his mistreatment of others but couldn't see the truth of his actions of killing his father and marrying his mother. Overall I would recommend this story to anyone who's interested in a good tragedy with an interesting plot.
